I believe in collaborating with my patients to understand their mental health needs using a four-part model:

Life story: where they are in this moment in life, family history and upbringing,childhood experiences.

Personality: who they are as a person, what is their personality type and how that influences their daily life.

Behavior: what coping methods do they employ to manage mental distress for ex: alcohol, substances, avoidance etc.

Disease: the psychophysiologic symptoms, genetic influences, family history of mental illness.
